Configure NTP on an ESXi Host
As in most environments with networked servers it is important that all servers agree on the time. A common way to achieve this is via the Network Time Protocol (NTP). NTP allows the administrator to establish an authoritative view of the current time, either by setting up a single, private time source (NTP server) or pointing to a public, authoritative time source. An example of a public NTP server is at ntp.org.

The NTP configuration is defined in the configuration tab of the host in the time configuration section. Using the vSphere Client, configure the startup mode for the NTP service and provide a list of NTP servers to query:

  1. Start vSphere Client
  2. Select Hosts and Clusters
  3. Select the ESXi host and click Configuration tab
  4. Under Software select Time Configuration
  5. Click Properties on the right hand side
  6. Edit the date, time, and NTP settings
  7. Click Options
  8. Select NTP Settings to add your list of NTP hosts
  9. Select Start and stop with host
Click OK
